Havana Syndrome (Anomalous Health Incidents): Since 2016, U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers have reported sudden loud noises, pressure in the head, chronic headaches, insomnia, and significant cognitive impairment.  The government’s position has swung over time — the Intelligence Community’s most recent unclassified assessment found it very unlikely a foreign actor caused the incidents,  while other bodies like the National Academies saw directed RF energy as plausible and JASON found evidence too weak for firm conclusions.  In 2026, CNN reported the Defense Department has spent a year testing a pulsed-radio-wave device  some investigators think could explain some cases — though there’s still no definitive proof of who or what caused the incidents.  Medical reviewers’ actual consensus: the symptoms are real, but a study using MRI comparisons against controls did not find a consistent injury pattern that would validate one single mechanism across cases.

“Targeted Individuals” (TI) community: A much larger, older, internet-based community describes a related but broader cluster: Remote Neural Monitoring, “Voice to Skull” (V2K), Gang Stalking, and directed energy weapon exposure.  TIs describe being harassed by an unknown entity, most often through “gangstalking” — coordinated surveillance by strangers, neighbors, or “perps” believed to work for government, military, or law enforcement.  Common reported symptoms: burning sensations, electric jolts, forced insomnia, intrusive “voices” bypassing the ears, and a pervasive sense that ordinary people and technology have been recruited against them. Forensic psychiatrists reviewing federal court filings note these complaints often co-occur with paranoid beliefs about GPS, telecommunications, and hacking,  and clinically this cluster overlaps heavily with persecutory-delusion presentations — while a much smaller number of cases (Havana Syndrome proper) have institutional/medical backing that something physically happened, even if the mechanism is unresolved.

The throughline in both, regardless of cause: an invisible, undetectable attacker; suffering that can’t be proven to outsiders; the body under assault while asleep or at rest; and isolation from a world that doesn’t believe you.

Scripture that speaks into that same territory

One correction first: “slings and arrows” is Shakespeare (Hamlet), not the Bible — but the Bible has its own, arguably more direct, language of invisible projectile attack. Here’s the mapping:

Hidden enemies, secret weapons — Psalm 64:2-4

“Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked… who bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words — that they may shoot in secret at the blameless.” This is almost a verbatim description of an unseen assailant firing something you can’t dodge because you never see it coming.

Terror by night, arrows by day — Psalm 91:5-6

“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.” This psalm is built around exactly the categories TI and AHI accounts describe — nighttime assault, invisible plague, daytime strikes with no visible source.

The enemy shoots from ambush — Psalm 11:2

“The wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.” Ambush from darkness, unseen shooters.

Bodily affliction with no natural explanation — Psalm 38:3, 7-8

“There is no soundness in my flesh… My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.” David describes something that reads like chronic, unexplained somatic affliction — head pressure, exhaustion, pain without visible wound.

“Arrows” as language for affliction from within — Job 6:4

“The arrows of the Almighty are in me, my spirit drinks in their poison; God’s terrors are marshaled against me.” Job uses “arrows” as metaphor for suffering that has no external mark but is devastatingly real to the sufferer — useful if you’re looking at how ancient people described invisible affliction they couldn’t prove to others either.

Hated for no reason, watched, plotted against — Psalm 69:4, John 15:25

“Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head.” Jesus later quotes this line directly about himself. This is the theological anchor for “you’ll be hated in my name” — Jesus applies an ancient persecution psalm to himself and, by extension, his followers.

Persecution promised as normative, not exceptional — Matthew 10:22, John 15:18-20, Luke 21:12-17

“You will be hated by everyone because of me… A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.” This is the explicit “you’ll be hated in my name” cluster — Jesus frames covert hostility and social isolation of believers as expected, not a sign that something has gone wrong with their faith.

The “fiery darts” of spiritual warfare — Ephesians 6:16

“Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (KJV: “fiery darts of the wicked.”) This is the single closest biblical phrase to modern “directed energy” language — an attack that is projectile-like, incendiary, aimed, and invisible until it lands.

A messenger sent to torment, with no cure given — 2 Corinthians 12:7-9

“A thorn in my flesh was given me, a messenger of Satan to torment me… Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.” Paul describes an ongoing physical/spiritual affliction whose exact nature he never specifies, for which he prays repeatedly, and to which God’s answer is not removal but “my grace is sufficient.” This is the passage most directly relevant to someone who suffers something real, unexplained, and unrelieved.

Betrayal and terror closing in — Psalm 55:4-6

“My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me… I said, ‘Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.’” Written about betrayal by a trusted friend — resonant with the TI theme of neighbors/community being “turned.”
